Hannukah is a complex celebration for secular Jews. It originated as a glorification of war and evolved
into a celebration of divine miracles. Part of Jewish tradition is the invention and reimagination of
holidays. As a cultural Jew, I’d like to continue that tradition by reimagining Hanukkah. As we enter a new
year, let’s pray for the miracle of a ceasefire and the rededication of a figurative temple wherein the only
thing venerated is peace.
