Haven Abraham Perez, Ph.D., is an accomplished educator and scholar dedicated to fostering inclusive learning environments and addressing the complex intersections of faith, ethnicity, and community. Married since 1985 to Liwanda Joy, Haven is the proud father of three children: Lorelei (23), Luther (21), and Lillian-Kelly (18), who inspire his commitment to family and faith-centered education.

Haven’s academic journey began with a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from Loyola-Marymount University, where he developed a deep appreciation for the Continental tradition and ethical frameworks that inform his work. He pursued advanced studies at the University of Southern California, earning both an M.A. and Ph.D. in American Studies & Ethnicity with a Sociology emphasis. His doctoral research explored the interplay of race, religion, and politics in shaping religious identities in the United States.

With over two decades of teaching experience, Haven has served as a lecturer at institutions such as California State University, Dominguez Hills, the University of Southern California, and Loyola-Marymount University. In addition to teaching Ethnic Studies for the Compton Unified School District. He has taught over 2,000 students across a wide range of subjects, including ethics, political science, religious studies, and sociology, and remains committed to creating engaging, learner-centered classrooms. His pedagogical approach integrates innovative methods, such as analyzing popular culture to understand complex theoretical concepts, while ensuring a safe space for addressing contentious social issues.

As Director of Religious Education, Haven channels his extensive background in teaching, research, and counseling into designing programs that nurture spiritual growth and community engagement. His leadership reflects a dedication to ethical inquiry, cultural awareness, and fostering a deeper understanding of faith traditions.
