Then in 2014, in support of the 7th UU Principle, Respect for the Interdependent Web of Existence and after much effort to qualify, Pacific Unitarian Church became one of the 30% of Unitarian Universalist congregations to be accredited as a Green Sanctuary congregation.

Among other things, we use reusable plates, mugs, and utensils for our after-service lunches, buy and serve fair trade coffee, have solar panels, include environment success in our religious education curriculum, manage a beehive, and created the Nancy Hofland Permaculture Garden. We seek to practice permaculture in our garden, that is to work with nature instead of against it. The edible garden is framed by native sage bushes and harvests are used by The Pacific Sage Preschool as well as the Sunday brunch bunch chefs on occasion.

In 2022 and 2023 further improvements to our garden were made by local Eagle Scout candidates. We are appreciative of their efforts.
