The Pastor’s Pen – August 2026
Over the past several weeks, our congregation participated in a Worship Evaluation Survey. I am happy to report that the results are in. Thank you to the worship committee for their work in overseeing the process and to everyone who took the time to complete it. Your thoughtful participation demonstrates the care you have for Pacific Unitarian Church and your desire to help shape its future.
One of the great strengths of our congregation is that people are willing to share both their appreciation and their aspirations. Surveys like this provide us with an opportunity to listen intentionally to one another. They help us move beyond assumptions and anecdotes by giving us a clearer picture of the experiences, hopes, and priorities of our community as a whole.
The initial results are encouraging. Overall, the responses suggest that there is a strong foundation upon which we can continue to build. At the same time, the survey offers valuable insights into areas where we can continue to grow and better serve our congregation. As with any meaningful feedback process, the most important work begins after the survey is completed.
The worship committee is carefully reviewing the responses. We want to understand not only what people said, but also the themes and patterns that emerge across the congregation. This process takes time because we want to ensure that we interpret the feedback thoughtfully. We are considering both the quantitative responses and the many written comments that members so generously provided.
Over the coming weeks, the Worship Committee and I will continue evaluating the results and discerning what next steps may be appropriate. Some ideas may be implemented relatively quickly, while others may require additional conversation, planning, or resources. Our goal is not simply to react to individual suggestions but to make decisions that strengthen our worship life and support our mission over the long term.
We believe that healthy congregations are always learning. Listening to one another is an important spiritual practice, and this survey is one way we live into our commitment to collaboration, openness, and continuous growth. We are grateful for the trust you have placed in this process and for the many constructive ideas that have been shared.
As our evaluation continues, we will keep the congregation informed about what we are learning and any recommendations or actions that emerge from this work. Thank you again for your participation, your honesty, and your continued investment in the life of Pacific Unitarian Church. Together, we are building a congregation that continues to grow in purpose and community.
