What’s Luminescence?

Realizing that we UU’s didn’t have many holidays to call our own, the UU Church of Santa Clarita created a holiday to celebrate all the light our faith brings to the world in 2007. They chose to celebrate in February, just after the darkest days of winter, as longer days begin to edge out the night. Luminescence honors The Source of Light, Recognition, Reflection, Refocus, and Renewal.

Why celebrate now?

After two years of a global pandemic, Pacific Unitarian is still shining its light—bringing warmth and hope to our congregation as we maintain its glowing chalice with our own spark and persistence to stay enlightened. Undaunted by the many challenges of the past two years, we’re embarking on a new partnership with our Multiultural Outreach and Education Director, committing to our mission of anti-oppression and multiculturalism, strengthening our media presence, and keeping our faith in each other. Now, as we celebrate our 65th anniversary, Luminescence seems the perfect way to kick off our annual pledge drive, and celebrate us.

How will we celebrate?

We’ll gather at Pacific Unitarian to enjoy the sunset, shine our own lights, and celebrate the sources and properties of the light. Our planning team consulted with the Pacific Unitarian Youth–they’d like some singing, some sharing, some fun. We’ll make it happen.

Let’s keep things COVID-safe. Bring your favorite light source and dinner.
Beverages, light snacks, glow sticks, and electrical outlets will be available.
Let us know if you plan to join the fun: RSVP to admin@pacificunitarian.org
