Friends:
I just watched last Sunday’s Transgender Day of Visibility service with Dr. Lisa Klein, and I was incredibly moved. The words, the youth presentation, the music, the message, and everything else were so meaningful and beautiful. It perfectly demonstrated what I was talking about in my message the previous Sunday about altruism as protection against stupidity. It showed a combination of empathetic concern for all others and the compassionate desire to follow that concern toward a diligent understanding of what is true. It sent a message that we have a courageous drive to speak and live our truths, and in doing so, we will succeed in combating the greed, selfishness, hatred, desire, and ignorance that promotes and thrives upon stupidity.
The service was one example of the immense energy we have here at Pacific Unitarian to continue working together to live our values. That energy has shown up in so many other places, including our successful pledge drive, our increased attendance at worship, and our growing engagement in numerous enrichment activities for youth and adults.
This month, we continue to work with altruistic love for each other and our planet as our youth begin their coming-of-age program, our congregants participate in local political protests, and we embark upon an Earth Month celebration with a bunch of great activities and opportunities. (The Earth Month calendar in this e-blast has been updated with some new offerings and information).
I encourage you to read our e-blasts, check out our bulletin boards on campus, and engage with your fellow Pacific Unitarian-ers to stay connected with all that is happening. As always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions or just to connect.
On another note of hope…this week’s historic win in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race and the exponentially growing positive energy coming from the many progressive rallies, as well as individual acts of resistance like Senator Booker’s historic speech, are further proof that the determination to seek wisdom and pursue compassionate justice for all can overcome even those who use money, force, and power to immorally seek more of the same. We may not secure every victory but with the hope and persistence that has been demonstrated strongly at our congregation and by resistance movements across the nation, we will win more and more.
