Beloveds, these past couple of weeks have been hard. We struggle through yet another tragedy caused by guns in our community. We have lost innocent people, gone too soon. We struggle with fear and with uncertainty. We also acknowledge that the identities of the shooters mean that racism towards Asian Americans may increase. Beloveds, fear is a natural response, but we must not let it consume us. Beyond that though, let us continue to work against xenophobia, racism and the epidemic of gun violence in our communities, practicing solidarity with those who need us most.

Wondering what to do? The social justice committee has started meeting on the first Sunday of every month after service. They welcome your projects and your input. The Multicultural Transformation Team also welcomes new members. Please contact Lee Ann Hart to be a guest at the meeting and consider membership. You can also send a message to end gun violence through Moms Demand Action.

Here at Pacific Unitarian, we have had a full month. I’m grateful to Severin and the Worship Committee for leading a fun New Year’s Day service, and for Jewell and the MTT’s work on the Martin Luther King Jr Sunday service. The musical guest on MLK Day was fantastic! I’ve also appreciated our Lunar New Year observances. See the volunteer recognition section for more on that!

The transition team has been working on the history of Pacific Unitarian. It was interesting to see the timeline in the Hall. We hope it will lend some insight into Pacific Unitarian’s history and help us see interesting events and patterns as we move towards the future.

If you haven’t already, I welcome all Pacific Unitarian members and friends to make an appointment with me and tell me about your history with Pacific Unitarian. Some of you have taken me up on this, but I still want to talk to more of you! You can make an appointment here- https://calendar.app.google/ bPaQQYCzyRnQKwEY9.

Sending love and peace,

Chloe
