What's So Funny?

A sermon focusing on the nature of humor by considering Dr. Richard Wiseman’s effort to discover the world’s funniest joke. We can all benefit, the midst of growing social and political turmoil, from the ability to see what’s funny…and what’s not.

-Reverend Dr. Stephen H. Furrer
George Washington:
Ché of Fairfax County

As the congregation contemplates the essentials of good leadership and as America evaluates the performance of its new President, Rev. Furrer will preach on our country's first chief executive. The radical values, traits, accomplishments, and legacy of George Washington.

In the Tradition of many of his predecessors, Rev. Furrer will be hosting a "lyceum" next Sunday (February 19th) on the first UU Principle: "the inherent worth and dignity of every person." A 20 minute presentation followed by discussion and dialogue.

Where: Henriksen Hall
Time: 12:15 p.m.

UPDATE FROM THE TREASURER  -  Tax Receipt letters have been sent via email or US mail to all members and friends who have made cash or stock donations to PUC between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016. These letters acknowledge your financial donation to PUC during the past calendar year, and can be useful if you claim charitable deductions on your tax return.  Please note that the tax receipt letter is totally different and separate from the pledge status statements sent out last December. Pledge status statements are based on money donated toward pledges aligned with our fiscal year (July 1st through June 30th) whereas the tax receipt letters summarize money donated during the calendar year (which goes from January 1 through December 31st) regardless of which pledge year the donation was intended.  If you have any questions, if you need more detailed information, if you believe the information in the receipt is wrong, or if you didn't receive a tax receipt letter and believe you should have, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected] pacificunitarianchurch.org

Thanks,  Trish

Playing in the Sage ....

“Seeds have the power to preserve species, to enhance cultural as well as genetic diversity, to counter economic monopoly and to check the advance of conformity on all its many fronts.”
                                                       ----Michael Pollan

Seeds also have the capacity to be bits of wonder and magic.
The children like to look for and collect the black coral seeds in the yard and I love reminding them to be careful with them. After all, there is a tree inside.

The rain we have been having lately has been hurrying spring here on the hill and everything is green and growing, so in anticipation of spring planting in our garden, and after reading “Jack and the Beanstalk”, the friends have been starting bean seeds in the window of our science room. Doing it in zip bags gives us the pleasure of being able to watch as the seeds wake up and start to change.

Listening to the children talk about their experiences with planting and the different types of beans we had to choose from (and the possibility of attracting giants with our project), I was reminded they are like seeds, and little bits of wonder and magic that we get to watch wake up and change. What is the possibility of attracting giants?

Warmly,
