Welcome to the Dempster Family
PUC welcomes the Dempster family as new members to our beloved community.
Dan Dempster is a professional artist, whose paintings, drawings, and sculptures have been shown throughout the world. He teaches a weekly meditation class at PUC and has studied Tibetan Buddhism for many years.
He narrowly escaped joining a monastery by meeting Sharon Holtz, whom he married and with whom he has two boys, Dylan, 9, and Miles, 5, both students at Lunada Bay Elementary School.
Sharon and Dan met in Bermuda, where Dan grew up and where Sharon was working. Today, she is the spa manager at Terranea Resort in RPV.
Grandmas Elda Holtz enjoys spending time with the boys, cooking, sewing, knitting and singing in the church choir.

MSC Posts congregational record for potential ministers
The Ministerial Search Committee (MSC) achieved a milestone in PUC's ministerial search process. The congregational record, which includes information on PUC's history, financials, survey results, and much more was approved. During the month of December, potential ministers will review the congregational records of churches who are in the ministerial search process. PUC will be notified in early January of those ministers who are interested in PUC. The MSC will then begin to review the Ministerial Records of interested ministers.
Thank you to everyone who shared their views through the online survey and cottage party as your input was very valuable. A special thank you to the Board, Margo Miekle and all others who assisted with providing information to support the process.

Did You Know....You can contribute $$$ to PUC when shopping at Ralphs? Go to www.ralphs.com and register choosing Pacific Unitarian Church as your non-profit community organization. Yearly registration started in September, so if you haven't registered/renewed since September, you are not currently participating in Ralphs Community Contribution Program. Scan bar letters are available in the office for those who prefer to register by taking this letter into Ralphs when shopping and syncing up their Ralphs Card. It doesn’t cost you anything. Ralphs gives PUC a percentage of what you spend there.

Keeping In touch
We miss long-time PUC members Julius and Ginny Schwartz, who have been living in San Diego. Julius is painting and teaching classes in their retirement community. Ginny now is in the Memory Center there. She (and Julius, too) would love notes and cards from friends here. Call Barbara Paulsen, the Church Office, or see the PUC Directory for their address.

Dear Campers and Camp Supporters
In this harried world and at this crazy time, Camp de Benneville calls.

It is the place where you can nourish, heal, and strengthen your spirit. You experience joy, love, and beloved community there. And nature brings awe and comfort as you immerse yourself in the wilderness.
You love it. Camp needs your support.
And if you'll do it in the next four weeks, you'll double your impact.
We have received a challenge from anonymous donors who are asking you to join with them to support Camp de Benneville Pines. If you can pitch in and help us raise $50,000, your dollars will be matched!
$50 becomes $100. $500 becomes $1,000, and $5,000 becomes $10,000!
With your help we will replace roofs, work on the decks, and continue to improve the lodge. And together, we'll make camp more accessible so everyone can come regardless of their ability to pay.
Thanks to our anonymous donors for their amazing generosity, and thank you for helping make de Benneville Pines a beloved destination for beloved community.
Wishing you well this holiday season,
Janet James

Playing in the Sage…
"It's the most wonderful time of the year...and everyone telling you be of good cheer…It's the most wonderful time of the year"...
Winter is coming. The breezes are brisk and like the small creatures on the hill, we yearn to spend more time holed up in our little "burrow," warm and cozy with the children. The cold reality is the staff running around frantically trying to put the children back into their shoes, socks and sweaters. J
Now as the year draws to a close, we are excited to thank all of our extended families and friends for a "most wonderful year" of magic (and occasional mayhem). Please let us know if you can join us for our 2nd Annual Breakfast with Santa here at Pacific Sage Preschool. It is our gift to you.
Warmly,
Sylvia
Director
Pacific Sage Preschool

Mindfulness and Meditation:
Tools for Change, Techniques for Coping
Sunday 18 December, 2016
12:15 - 1:15 pm (after lunch)
in the Library or Hall.
All are welcome.
Despite all the celebration, the holiday season can be a difficult time for many. We may find ourselves sad and lonely, even surrounded by family and friends. This year in particular we may find ourselves depressed and anxious about the future. What to do?
Through developing love, compassion, joy, and equanimity we can rediscover purpose and meaning in life. Becoming more present, aware, and awake, we can rediscover the richness and beauty of life, and find ourselves of help, kindness and cheer to others.
Wouldn’t this be a nice gift to give yourself and your loved ones? Join us for this introduction.
Regular Tuesday evening Buddhist meditation group practice is 7:30-9:00 p.m. in the Library.
Dan Dempster has been authorized by Khenpo Migmar Tseten, Buddhist Chaplain at Harvard University. He is a member of PUC and leads 7:30-9:00 Tuesday evening Buddhist meditation practice in the library.
Please RSVP dandmpstr@gmail.com so that we may determine numbers.
