"Decisions, Decisions..."

Revered Furrer's second sermon on the nation's election two days hence. Complementing last Sunday's mythic analysis, this morning Dr. Furrer will consider the religious and ethical issues permeating the election and contemporary democracy.

The History of Pacific Unitarian Church: Background and Early Years

The background and beginnings of PUC will be the focus of this morning's sermon. Some of the highlights and some of the missteps. Reverend Furrer, preaching.

“Volunteer Opportunity!"

Your facilities Committee has an opening for a member that would like to become involved with the maintenance and upkeep of our fabulous PUC grounds and buildings. You don’t need to be a carpenter, plumber, or electrician, but if you are, great! We are looking for someone to help with keeping an eye on what needs to be done around PUC, from landscape upkeep to light bulb replacement.

We meet once a month, typically 1st Thursday, but that is subject to change (Thursday Night Football??) for the winter months.

Anyone interested please contact Chair Bruce Lewis at facilities@pacificunitarian.org.

We would also like to recognize the contributions over the years of Andy Kissner, who is stepping off the facilities committee, probably to allow more time to cook BACON for the Sunday lunches. Andy has been a very valuable resource for us with his energy and spirit and love for PUC, and we know we can count on him if we need him.

Thanks Andy!!!

Playing in the Sage…

“Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them.”
          —George Eliot

“El Dia de los Muertos” is celebrated November 2nd but last for several weeks. The children have finished building our ‘ofrenda’ in our science room to remember our family and friends (and pets) that are no longer with us. We talked about the different items that we could choose to include, read books and painted boxes to represent the different levels of the afterlife, and made paper sugar skulls.

The children and families that play at Pacific Sage Preschool are very diverse culturally and it has been interesting learning about the different customs and rituals to honor and remember those that have died.

Take a peek and add a loved one if you like.

Warmly,
Sylvia
Director
Pacific Sage Preschool
Did You Know....You can contribute $$$ to PUC when shopping at Ralphs? Go to   www.ralphs.com  and register choosing Pacific Unitarian Church as your non-profit community organization.  Yearly registration started in September, so if you haven't registered/renewed since September, you are not currently participating in Ralphs Community Contribution Program.  Scan bar letters are available in the office for those who prefer to register by taking this letter into Ralphs when shopping and syncing up their Ralphs Card. It doesn’t cost you anything.  Ralphs gives PUC a percentage of what you spend there.
REMINDER

RUMMAGE SALE. Please bring your items to PUC and put them in the tent in front of the church. We need shoes, jewelry, books (ones people want to read) electronics, kitchen items, CDs and other treasures. Everything must be clean and usable. So clean out your garage, your closet or your kitchen and bring them to PUC.
