Upcoming Membership Sessions!

Sign up for one - April 10 or May 22...Held 12 - 2 PM.
Following these classes, we will host a New Member Ceremony:  SUNDAY, May 29 at 10:30 AM. Sign up, and you will receive the packet to read and to fill out before the session. Get information at the Welcome Table or email Kim Gosney at membership@pacificunitarian.org.  We so look forward to getting to know you better!

SAVE THE DATE - Sat May 14

WHY? Because it is auction time!
What to do between now and then?  Start thinking what you can create/imagine/share as an auction item.  This is such a great community building event.  The evening itself is filled with fun and friendship, but there will be numerous opportunities to bid on other adventures with your church community.

That's What I'm Talkin' About

We have each been given an opportunity to share our answer to the question: Why is PUC important?  If you haven’t yet, stop by the table on the patio this Sunday, make your own flag, and hang it for all to see.  Stroll along our lengthening banners and see what members of your community are saying.

Your 2016/2017 Pledge Team

“PUC is a second home, a place where I can
believe and love without fear of judgement.
It’s the safest, most fun community I’ve ever
had the chance to be a part of.”

“A community of support.”

“PUC is important to me because no matter
what religion you are,
you are accepted and
cared for.”

“The UU church is important to me because
it has
respect for reason & strives to create
a better world.”

“PUC is an amazing community and I feel
fortunate to be a part of it!”

“Gathering of good peopleExchange of
different ideas.  Peaceful surroundings.”

“PUC is important to me because it is a
place of
sanctuary for all ideas!”

“We love the community feel.”

PUC Food Ministry
“It’s a part of who the congregation is.”

Some times things go so right.  Every Sunday our PUC community comes together for worship followed by fellowship on the patio over brunch.  It’s a reason to stay and enjoy time with our fellow Unitarian Universalists. This breaking bread together has become our weekly communion. Come, sit down to brunch, or simply have a cup of coffee, and meet someone new.

Next Sunday We’re All in the Food Ministry!

Join the fun and bring an offering for next week's brunch buffet potluck. Do you make a fantastic crock pot of chili, soup, or something else yummy? Are you known for your delicious side dishes or scrumptious deserts? Next week is the Sunday to show them off. Vegetarian and vegan options are always popular.   Food Ministry will round it all out to make sure there is something for everyone!

Be sure to email Margo at margomeikle@yahoo.com with your contribution – and avoid 15 Mac & Cheese dinners!

Friends of the LA River (FOLAR) has been leading the charge to revitalize and reimagine the LA River for 30 years.  FOLAR was founded on the belief that “effective advocacy, education, collaboration and imagination can accomplish great things” (sounds like our kind of organization!)  For 27 years, FOLAR has been bringing together diverse communities affected by the river for the shared goal of cleaning up and beautifying this vital resource.  This year’s Great LA River Cleanup is even more urgent because EL Nino has swept trash accumulated over many years of drought into the channel.

PUC will join with 9,000 other volunteers in this critical community event.  Join PUC on April 30, 2016 from 9 a.m. to noon as we volunteer to cleanup a portion of the LA River at Golden Shore Marine Reserve in Long Beach.  Families with children are welcome!  Sign up and sign a waiver at the Social Justice/Green Sanctuary Climate Justice table this Sunday!

Wondering what to wear at Camp de Benneville this spring?

Make a statement with a PUC tee shirt or sweatshirt.  You can make your custom top from a variety of style and color options.  Pictured above are just four possibilities of many.  Design your own shirt and more by going to zazzle.com and searching for "Pacific Unitarian Church."

To find your clothing options be ready to make a few clicks.   Select the “Love Beyond Belief! Women's Tee Shirt.”  Scroll down to look at the bottom right hand side of the screen for your various shirt options.  To see your color choices, click on the style you like.   For men’s options you will also start with the “Love Beyond Belief! Women's Tee Shirt.”   Look at the bottom right hand side of the screen and select “Men’s Basic Dark T-shirt.”  Again, look on the bottom right hand side of that screen for all the men’s options.  Click on a style to see your color options.

Camp DeBenneville Pines - June 10-12, 2016

Come join with family and friends at PUC's annual retreat at Camp DeBenneville Pines from June 10-12, 2016. This year's theme is "May the Forest Be With YUU" and there will be fun events and  activities that speak to the theme. Camp Co-Deans Andy & Janet Kissner will be on the patio most Sundays to answer questions and provide registration information. Please email Andy at andykpuc@gmail.com or Janet at jlkissner@gmail.com with any questions. We hope to see YUU there!

ALL BELOVED PETS ARE WELCOME!
SUNDAY   |   APRIL 24   |   10:30 AM

You know your animal and what would make them comfortable around many other species and people - maybe a leash or a carrier. You are also welcome to bring photos or a stuffed animal to represent your pet.
Mother's Day Announcement

May 8th Mother’s Day— Pacific Unitarian Church welcomes with pleasure the St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble in concert at noon.  The deep, richly blended voices perform Russian sacred and folk music.  Kirill, Andrei, Sergey and Vadim fill the Hall with cathedral sound.  There will be a small charge.

Playing in the Sage…

“Well I hit the rowdy road
And many kinds I met there
And many stories told me of the way to get there
So on and on I go, the seconds tick the time out
So much left to know, and I'm on the road to find out…”
                                                         ---Cat Stevens

The children and I would like to thank whoever left a red plasma-car in front of the door to the preschool. We hope it was for us, but then possession is 9/10th of the law. (We say just try and get it back!)

It was so popular the first couple of days that one of the children brought hers so “turns can be longer.” These cars have created an incredible amount of learning opportunities for the friends. We have a clipboard posted so everyone can sign up for a turn. This puts learning to write your name into a more meaningful context.  But more importantly, is all the social skills, language and imagination that happens, as they race around, wheels click-clacking, calling out to each other “Come on. Let’s go!”

…Because who isn’t on the road to find out?!

Warmly,
Sylvia
