Let’s Talk about Racism…soon again…. Our Deeper Dive gatherings on Racism, in all its passive and active forms, will gather back from a two-week holiday break. The group is using the close of the year to pause and then turn its attention both inwardly and to action. In 2021 in ways both charted out and not, this group will begin to look at ways we as a church can become more inclusive in style, efforts at outreach, and exactly what we might do. It seems that this group will utilize some of the UUA’s curricula and tools contained in their Widening the Circle, might come a cadre of volunteers working with foster kids in the CASA program, and might engage with either or both the Black Lives Matter movement, or White People 4 Black Lives (WP4BL). For those who might want to review these groups, here are their web pages.
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. Vivian Hao, Frank Adams, and Kim Pratto-Storr are the most informed members of our congregation involved with CASA. Engaging with this group involves a serious, long-term commitment to at risk children, many of them children of color. For more information check out https://casala.org/
White People 4 Black Lives (WP4BL) is a white anti-racist collective and activist project. We operate within a national network of white anti-racists called Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ). WP4BL’s work is rooted in showing up for racial justice and acting in alliance with Black Lives Matter: Los Angeles, the Movement 4 Black Lives, and other partners. https://www.awarela.org/white-people-4-black-lives
