Laundry Love Returns: Since April, because of the coronavirus, we had reluctantly put on hold our Laundry Love ministry in Lomita. Uncomfortable with both the risks of putting volunteers in a busy laundromat, and uncomfortable leaving a population of people we have come to know unserved, Janet Kissner recently connected with three other Laundry Love locations in the South Bay to assess what options and ideas for moving forward might be available. Janet found that the Lomita and Carson locations are taking an indefinite and understandable pause. However, the Redondo Beach location has chosen to continue by simply handing out prepaid laundromat cards and detergent once a month outside the laundromat.
After some discussion and debate, with a similar socially distancing model initiated by the Redondo Beach Laundry Love, we are going to return to Vivi’s Laundry on the 2nd Saturday of the month. With masks on and six feet of table between us, we are going to return to a safe version of this service to the community. From 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm on the second Saturday of the month, we will return to service by providing the quarters and laundry detergent outside Vivi’s laundromat. This will help an already challenged population have clean clothes and the dignity and comfort that brings. We have decided to limit our monthly expenses to $300. Rev. Steve and likely Lora Childers will manage this return as volunteers on Saturday, October 10. Get in touch with Steve if you would like to volunteer.
