Shouts & Murmurs

We had an amazing night at our Journey to Membership class last night!

The remarkable thing about this class is the connections that unfold and ferment with one another as we discuss the 7 principals. Diverse people who seldom know one another reserve precious time to be speaking and listening and discovering a deeper meaning of being together at Pacific Unitarian Church…

Membership is actually something very ancient. Together, we are discovering the meaning of the word covenant.

COVENANT: c.1300, from Old French covenant “agreement”…

Originally present participle of covenir “agree, meet,” from Latin convenire “come together” (see convene). Latin: testamentum, Greek: diatheke, both rendering Hebrew: berith.

Yet, we are doing something new, fresh and current when we in 2014 are making an “agreement” that is being parsed out in our contemporary culture and lives. Our approach to this agreement at Pacific Unitarian Church is serious, but it is also joyful and fun! We might discuss an old village Unitarian church in Transylvania… or New Orleans recipes for Mardi Gras… or sex education for all ages!

If you are intrigued and would like to attend the next Journey to Membership Class – it is being held on 2 Sundays, May 4 and 18 from 12:15 – 2:25 in Classroom 1.  The New Member Ceremony for the next entering group is May 25th!
